If you are opposed to deer sharp-shooters and all other trap-and-kill measures in our neighborhood, your action is needed NOW:

  1. Stop feeding deer in the neighborhood. This is a no-cost, long-term solution to reducing the population. Additional food intake increases reproductive rates and promotes migration from their natural habitat.
  2. Vote NO on NWACA ballot. Do not support reducing the deer population by lethal methods. Killing or trapping promotes higher birth rates in the surviving population and must be ongoing.
  3. Contact Austin City Council members. Voice your opposition to deer sharp-shooters and all other trap-and-kill measures in our neighborhood.
  4. Reach out to neighbors, organizations, newspapers and other publications. Make your opposition to urban deer killing known.
  5. Register on this website. Receive important updates regarding this issue.

Don’t fund deer killing with your tax $$$!

Your organization may be interested to know that under a permit issued by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, the City of Austin has been quietly engaged in wildlife management activities, including the lethal harvesting of white-tailed deer for several years. Navigate to the Austin Water Utility’s Wildland Conservation Division web page using the link below and note the reference to lethal harvesting of white-tailed deer in the last paragraph, titled “Managing Deer”. http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/water/wildland/wtdeer.htm
Deer move freely between natural areas and adjacent residential neighborhoods and could easily find themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time. Deer harvested in those areas can never return to neighborhoods where they were once enjoyed by so many.
